Tips and tricks
An ever-elusive aspect for golfers around the world is successfully hitting the ball long, which many golf players fail to achieve even with a limited degree of success. Whether because of poor golfing skills, or their frustration at being unable to hit the golf ball successfully, many golf players end up hitting the ball too hard - completely failing to appreciate the various factors that have influence on the course of the ball.
The golf club is not just for decoration, it has been ergonomically designed to ensure that when it does make contact with the golf ball, the ball will travel the furthest possible distance and a golf club like any other tool, is only as effective as the person who wields it. If you use the club aggressively and hit the ball with as much force as you can possibly muster, your aim and accuracy will suffer as a result. The way in which you physically grasp the club is also of the utmost importance, it may sound like a moot point, but even being a mere centimeter off can make a huge difference as to how far the ball travels. This is to do with angles.
Ideally, when you hold the club in your hand, make sure that you grip it firmly with your fingers, rather than the palm of your hands, this is essential for increased control and precision. By holding the club in your fingers, you will be able to make a more fluid and smooth swinging action, like a pendulum swinging back and forth. Any golfing expert worth their salt will tell you that this smooth continuous action is fundamental in ensuring a successful swing and by extension, hitting the ball long.
Challenging the way you think is another major hurdle to overcome in the game of golf. Contrary to what you may think, in order to hit the ball longer, it is best to maintain a rather loose grip on the club. Holding onto your club like a python ensnarling its prey is NOT the way to go.
As mentioned earlier, golf is all about angles, in order to achieve the most effective angle possible, try to keep your swing nice and level before coming into contact with the ball. This will help to minimize the "curve" that the ball would travel if hit incorrectly, meaning that it should travel in a straight line.
Another major factor is attitude. If you get frustrated or agitated, you are more likely to hold the club too firmly, and your game will suffer as a result. Remember, even if golf does require an intense level of mental discipline, it is still a game - so just relax and try to have fun.
