| | | | Improving Your Golf Swing | | The most-fundamental skill a golfer can master is the basic golf swing. In many ways, it's the building blocks for everything else. The cocky novice will hit one semi-decent shot and think they have mastered golf, failing to understand that what they achieved was little more than a fluke. Consistency is key - you will not get anywhere without developing a consistent golf swing. Think it's impossible? All it takes is a little patience and willingness to analyze what you're doing wrong and training the body, even if it feels a bit unnatural at first. Improving your golf swing can easily become a reality if you pay attention to seemingly "minor" nuances which can make a huge difference.
A golf swing is contingent on a number of different factors. One of the most important determinants in making a particular swing successful are the posture and stance. Both feet should be shoulder width apart, parallel to the line, with your knees slightly bent and your front foot planted during the entire swing. The last thing you want is to lose your balance. Turn your back foot either on the ball of your foot or on the toes of it to give you more flexibility when swinging.
Keep your arms loose and relaxed. Never lock the elbows are concentrate on keeping your arm entirely straight. This gives you greater control. When you swing the club, it should be one continuous motion. If you jerk the club or use too much force, then you will end up spoiling the shot. The golf club should be directly behind you, making it difficult to actually examine for yourself the status of your back swing. You may be hesitating during the back swing without even realizing it. Have another person observe your back swing or recording your golf swing on video. This should help you determine where on your swing you're going wrong.
When you are ready to make your downswing, try to channel the exertion used throughout your hips and legs, rather than your shoulders and arms. Most of your power will come from your lower body, thereby allowing you to achieve more consistent shots. |
