Leaving for a day or two or even more seems to a wonderful idea for all us golf lovers, anywhere in the world we might be! A golf vacation is probably one of the few times you do nothing much except what you truly love doing. Many of the world's most beautiful locales also house golf resorts and thousands take advantage of the lush greens and breathtaking scenery every year.
Here are a few tips to help make your golf vacation one you will never forget.
Golfing Equipment
Most resorts allow you to rent equipment for a fee, but most serious golf travelers always travel with their own golf clubs. Bringing your own equipment also means you will be more comfortable on the course and will not be forced to get used to playing with unfamiliar clubs. Pack your golf clubs in a golf travel bag or golf travel cover. Make sure and pack golf balls and golf tees. If you are flying with your golf gear, clean your clubs thoroughly before tying together and wrapping in plastic. Cleaning is critical if you're boarding a plane with your clubs because some chemicals found on the golf green can trigger some detection alarms during the airport checking. Tying them together will protect them from banging against each other. You may also want to wrap them with bubble tape, or insert foam between each club to prevent scratching.
Money
Most golf resorts & hotels accept major credit cards, but if you are unsure, check before arriving at your destination. ATM machines allow you to get cash anywhere, so you may also want to leave your checkbook at home. If going abroad, be sure and check the exchange rates before you go to get an idea of what the dollar is currently trading at. This information should also be readily available at the resort's front desk and at any local bank. While traveler's checks are not as prevalent as they once were, some travelers still enjoy the added feeling of security they bring.
Clothing
Most golf vacations mean fun in the sun, so you will be packing your warm weather clothes and summer golf attire. Golf can be a very sweaty game! If you must wear a belt with your golf shorts or golf pants, opt for one in cotton or soft and breathable fiber. Make sure to clean your golf shoes before packing because of the chemicals likely to be found on the soles or spikes.
