The Basics Every Beginning Golfer Needs

Golf Clubs

Golf clubs are certainly the first golfing equipment anyone thinks about. What you must know is that you will need to use several clubs during the game. The limit is fourteen clubs, but there might be variations. The different types of clubs are wedges, woods, irons and putters. Wedges are used for short distance shots. Woods are used on shots from the tee and irons should be used on shots necessitating a high degree of accuracy. Putters are used for shots upon the green close near the hole. After becoming more adept in their golf game, some golfers may want to use hybrid clubs.

Golf Balls

Golf balls are made of several special synthetic materials blended with each other. It is composed of three to four layers of materials. The most prominent feature of the golf ball is the various dimples present uniformly on its surface. These dimples have a purpose. They allow the ball to "fly" better and work with the golfer's maneuvering. You can get two different kinds of golf balls - those with harder exteriors and those with softer exteriors. When starting out, you may prefer the harder balls better because they have the tendency to go further. The soft balls are used mainly by golfers experienced enough to bring add finesse and precision 'stopping' with their shots.

Golf Shafts

The golf shafts are the 'sticks' to which the golf clubs are attached. The main area of the golf shaft is the grip, the region where you will be holding the shaft. This area is thicker. As a beginning golfer, you must try out several golf shafts until you find one with a grip you like. Swing freely with several different shafts or clubs to see how comfortable you are. Normally, golf shafts are made of steel or graphite, and you may find yourself preferring one metal to the other. As your experience as a golfer grows, you will most likely begin to gain a preference over the tapering and bend of the shaft as you become more knowledgeable about the sport.

Golf Tees

Golf tees are small stands on which the golf ball is rested before a shot. You will be using the golf tee for the first shot you play in the game. The golf tee you use should not affect your game; however, you may find yourself, for instance, preferring wooden tees to plastic tees. Tees also differ in length. If you use short tees, you will find it difficult to play higher shots. Longer tees are preferred by most players today. Flexible tees are a popular choice, but as a beginner, you may find them uncomfortable.
